Hang Tuah Jaya and Muar Strengthen Capacity in Developing CAPs

Strengthening of the capacity of city governments in developing the cities’ greenhouse gas emissions inventory (GHGI) and climate risk and vulnerability analysis (CRVA) in line with the GCoM Common Reporting Framework (CRF) is a key component of the European Union’s International Urban Cooperation (IUC) Asia, supported by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia as the technical parter, to develop climate action plans (CAPs) for five Malaysian pilot cities.

On 2 March 2020, IUC Asia through UTM supported CDP in organising and conducting capacity building workshops in developing GHGI and CRVA for Muar and Hang Tuah Jaya  (the same capacity building workshops for the other two pilot cities of Penampang and Tawau were conducted in November 2019).  The results of GHGI and CRVA exercise will form the foundation for mitigation target setting and adaptation goals setting towards developing the CAP for each of the pilot cities.

The workshops were co-led by Ms. Hanah Paik (CDP) and Prof. Dr. Ho Chin Siong, Mr. Chau Loon Wai and Dr Noor Aimran Samsudin (UTM-Low Carbon Asia Research Centre, UTM-LCARC). It was hosted by the Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) and brought together the City Climate Change Working Group (CCC-WG) officials of MPHTJ and Muar Municipal Council (MPM).  A total of 17 MPHTJ officials, including 12 “Green Ambassadors” from the MPM support staff group, and five MPM officials attended the joint workshop.
