Climate Adaptation Fund: USD 10 Million Grant Awarded to Penang Island, Malaysia

CDP Worldwide recently published and launched the case study of Penang Island as part of a programme on climate change adaptation/resilience financing and implementation for Asian cities at COP28 Dubai. The total grant amount of USD 10 million was allocated for the implementation of the nature-based climate adaptation programme for the urban areas of Penang Island. The following key issues have been addressed in the said case study:

  • What was the successful adaptation/resilience project that was able to be implemented?
  • What kind of funding mechanism City Council of Penang Island was able to leverage? (especially innovative/collaborative  mechanisms)
  • What were the challenges, opportunities, and gaps?
  • What were the important components for the project to be successful?

CDP has also published an easily accessible web-based guide – financing for sustainable infrastructure in Asia Pacific cities.
