DKI Jakarta and Pontianak, Two Indonesia’s GCoM Signatory Cities Recognized for Advancing Climate Action

As of 2025, the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) has 33 signatory cities in Indonesia. These cities demonstrate their commitment to advancing climate action in three key areas: reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, identifying and adapting to climate change risks, and increasing access to clean and affordable energy. These actions are reported annually through the Common Reporting Framework (CRF) of GCoM.

Last year, DKI Jakarta was the only GCoM signatory in Indonesia to receive a Badges Award, based on the city’s reporting performance in 2023. Since the appointment of the Indonesia Country Coordinator in 2024, a total of 24 Indonesian signatories submitted their climate action reports through the CDP-ICLEI Track platform. Notably, 22 of these cities opted to be evaluated for scoring—an impressive increase compared to only 11 cities the previous year. This progress is reflected in the 2024 GCoM Cities Final Badges results as below:

For the first time, the City of Pontianak has been honored with the prestigious Badges Award from the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM), joining DKI Jakarta as one of the top-performing Indonesian cities in climate action this year. To celebrate this milestone, a Compliant Badges Award Ceremony was held on 21 May 2025 at the Park Hyatt Hotel in Jakarta. The Governor of DKI Jakarta, Dr. Ir. Pramono Anung, accepted the award on behalf of the capital, while the Mayor of Pontianak, Ir. Edi Rusdi Kamtono, MM, MT, proudly received the accolade for his city’s achievement. The same recognition was also extended to six cities from Malaysia, honoring their significant progress in implementing climate action measures. The award ceremony was organized by United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG ASPAC), serving as the host of the GCoM Southeast Asia Secretariat since 2018.
